Saturday's international friendly tips: Denmark good value to frustrate Netherlands

There are plenty of international friendlies on Saturday - well, it is an international break after all - here's our selection of the best bets from a couple of those games.

Finland vs Iceland

Are Finland the new Iceland? Certainly, there have been hints of them beginning to punch above their weight thanks to qualification for Euro 2020, and then making a strong fist at qualifying for the World Cup in a tough group that included France and Ukraine. 

Iceland, meanwhile, have come down from their high of going to the knockout stages of Euro 2016, and in recent months have sunk back into mediocrity. Indeed, since the pandemic shutdown of the world in early 2020, they have only beaten Romania, Canada, Liechtenstein (twice) and the Faroe Islands. The odds on Finland here are too good to ignore.

Netherlands vs Denmark

Never underestimate Denmark in international football. Although they ended 2022 with a defeat against Scotland, that match was a dead rubber to them and meant everything to their hosts, while they were also chronically depleted. 

Prior to that, they had been undefeated through 90 minutes in 10 internationals, including a run to the semi-finals of Euro 2020, which was achieved despite losing key figure Christian Eriksen in traumatic circumstances in the opening game. 

The Netherlands, meanwhile, remain rather more unpredictable, as demonstrated by their abrupt European Championship exit to the Czech Republic at the last-16 stage. They have amassed a seven-match undefeated run in the aftermath, but aside from a key home win over Norway have not beaten anyone of note. Denmark have got what it takes to avoid defeat in this game.
