Premier League: Liverpool and Leicester to produce a thriller

Liverpool will attempt to remain in touch with Premier League leaders Manchester City when they play host to Leicester on Thursday.

The Reds have won their last four in a row in all competitions but suffered a 1-0 defeat away to the Foxes as recently as December 28.

Liverpool are 1.28 to continue their strong run, while Brendan Rodgers’ visitors are 12.5. The draw, meanwhile, is 7.0.

Liverpool’s home comforts

Liverpool might not have hit their peak lately but given they have played in January without Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, perhaps that should come as little surprise. Still, that has not stopped them scoring three goals in each of their last three games, with wins coming over Brentford, Crystal Palace and Cardiff.

They have been especially powerful at home this season. Not only have they been winning games, but they have also been winning them with ease. Six of their seven Premier League wins at Anfield have been claimed by multiple goals.

Salah will be welcomed back into the fold as they attempt to stretch their undefeated home run to 15 matches, but Mane remains on international leave.

Giving the Reds the blues

Leicester have been problematic opponents for Liverpool in recent times. Rodgers has secured back-to-back league victories over his former employers, although both of those have come at the King Power Stadium.

Sandwiched between those two matches was an EFL Cup quarter-final, in which Leicester held a 2-0 and 3-1 lead before conceding twice and folding on penalties.

Nevertheless, Klopp has lost four Premier League matches against the Foxes. There is no English top-flight club he has suffered more defeats against in the competition.

Leicester, meanwhile, are aiming to become the first team to do a league double over a Klopp side since Bayern Munich is 2014-15, and the first Foxes outfit to achieve that feat against Liverpool since the 1998-99 season.

Goals on the cards

After failing to beat Leicester over 90 minutes in any of their last three matches, odds of 1.28 on Liverpool winning are too slim to back with confidence.

Goals, instead, look likely. Liverpool’s last eight home league games have all produced at least three goals, while four of their last six in the Premier League have seen the ball hit the net at least four times. Eight of nine away league matches for Leicester, meanwhile, have yielded at least three strikes.

Backing Over 3.5 goals at 1.89 seems the smart move here.
