Premier League: Back Liverpool and goals at Palace

The last time Crystal Palace and Liverpool met at Selhurst Park was in December 2020, and the Reds rampaged to a 7-0 win.

While they would no doubt welcome a repeat of that devastating performance, it boils down to three points being essential for Jurgen Klopp’s side with Manchester City threatening to disappear over the horizon.

Palace are firmly established in mid-table – 11 points off Europe in one direction and the relegation zone in the other - and are seeking their first win of 2022.

Palace the underdogs as they look to end woeful Reds run

Crystal Palace last beat Liverpool in April 2017 when a Christian Benteke double secured all three points at Anfield.

The subsequent seven games have ended in defeat for the Eagles who went down 3-0 earlier this season, courtesy of goals by Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Naby Keita.

The trio have all progressed to the round of 16 with their respective countries at the Africa Cup of Nations, but their absence doesn’t seem to have blunted the Reds.

Palace are definitely the underdogs and are at 6.2 for the win.

They were minutes away from victory at Brighton last time out only for Joachim Andersen to score a late own goal for a 1-1 draw.

A repeat of that scoreline on Sunday is at 8.8 with a draw at 4.

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira saw his side lose 3-0 to Liverpool at Anfield earlier in the season

Gallagher integral for Palace

Patrick Vieira’s side last scored against Liverpool in November 2019 but have been goalless in the intervening four games in which they have conceded 16.

However, in Conor Gallagher they have a player who has been making waves in front of goal and with assists.

The midfielder has been directly involved in 10 Premier League goals in 18 appearances with seven goals and three assists.

The Chelsea loanee scored last time out and he is at 9 to be first goalscorer and at 3.45 to score at anytime.

Christian Benteke will not be leaving Selhurst Park after being linked with a move to Burnley and he is at 3.85 to score anytime.

Expect goals at both ends

Jurgen Klopp’s side could start the match 14 points behind leaders Manchester City and with no margin for error.

While the Reds boss was happy with his side’s progress to the Carabao Cup final on Thursday, he immediately turned his attention to the Palace clash, calling on them to be prepared to fight and be aggressive.

Their form has been patchy in recent weeks with five points from the last four games.

In that time they have scored seven and conceded five hinting at a promise of goals on Sunday.

Liverpool to win and both teams to score is at 3.25 while both teams to score in the second half is 3.7.

Can Jota continue cup form?

Diogo Jota scored both goals as the Reds beat Arsenal to book a Carabao Cup final spot. The midfielder has 14 in 27 games in all competitions this season although you have to go back to December 19 for when he was last on target in the league.

The Portuguese is at 5.3 for first goalscorer and at 2.22 to score anytime.
