Premier League Wednesday tips: why City could charge out of the blocks against Wolves

It's a crucial Premier League midweek at both ends of the table - here's a selection of the best bets, including the key clash between Wolves and Man City at Molineux.

Leeds vs Chelsea

7:30pm, Sky Sports Premier League

Leeds will find themselves in huge trouble if they fail to take something against Chelsea at Elland Road on Wednesday.

Despite coming into this match off back-to-back losses, they should be relatively upbeat. After all, these defeats came against Manchester City and Arsenal sides hungry for points.

Chelsea may find third spot under threat, but with Watford on the last day of the season, Champions League football should be secured, while the FA Cup final on Saturday is likely to take precedence.

The Blues’ recent record is also uninspiring. They have won only one of their last five matches, while their midweek trip north is unlikely to prove straightforward.

Recommended bet: Leeds or draw @ 2.34

Leicester vs Norwich

7:45pm

Leicester are experiencing a hectic finish to the season as a consequence of their strong run in the Europa Conference League. They have four matches still to play in the space of just 11 days, with a trip to Chelsea next Thursday the highlight.

Brendan Rodgers’ side may have slumped to 14th, but they can still target a top-half finish. After a seven-game winless run in all competitions, Wednesday’s meeting with the Canaries gives them a chance to change the momentum in their form.

Norwich, of course, have long been relegated. They have lost 11 of their last 13 matches in all competitions and have notably failed to score in their last three, conceding nine goals in the process. They were up against three mid-table rivals in those games, and that barren run is something that could well continue at the King Power. Only one of their last five has seen both teams score.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers will hope his side can pick up enough points from their last four games to finish in the top half

Watford vs Everton

7:45pm

Everton’s Premier League survival hopes could hinge on their trip to face Watford on Wednesday. Their hosts, of course, are already relegated after suffering a run of six successive defeats.

The Hornets have been particularly poor at home. Since beating Manchester United 4-1 in November,  they have lost 11 successive fixtures at Vicarage Road, including defeats against the likes of Norwich, Burnley, Leeds and Brentford – all direct rivals against relegation.

Everton, meanwhile, have a dreadful away record this season but did pick up a 2-1 win over Leicester at the weekend.

Given the stakes for the midweek game, expect Frank Lampard’s side to repeat that feat and take a step closer to survival. After all, the Toffees have won three of their last five, with their only defeat in that run an away match against Liverpool.

Recommended bet: Everton @ 1.91

Wolves vs Manchester City

8:15pm

Manchester City’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title hinge on their ability to win two of their remaining three matches and draw the other. First up is a trip to Wolves, followed by a journey to West Ham, and then a home match against Aston Villa. It is a tricky sequence.

Wolves, though, are a team limping towards the end of the season. They have little to play for, having endured a difficult run that has seen them win only one of their last six. Meanwhile, they have lost seven of their last 11. Odds of 14.5 on the hosts to win suggest there is little hope for them.

City, meanwhile, will have to be as efficient as possible in their remaining games in order to maximise their chances of being able to rest key players. Having scored 42 first half goals in the Premier League this season – more than any other club – look for them to go for the jugular early in this match.
