Sunday’s Premier League Predictions: Expect goals in City’s clash with Villa

There will be ramifications at both the top and bottom of the Premier League after Super Sunday’s doubleheader, and football expert Peter Galindo has previewed both matches.

Leeds United v Manchester United

Kickoff: 2pm Sunday

Leeds did more than enough to earn all three points against Manchester United in their rescheduled match on Wednesday - their first game since the sacking of American manager Jesse Marsch.

However, the Whites threw away a two-goal lead and eventually drew the match. Luckily for Leeds, they will have a chance to redeem themselves when they welcome their fierce rivals to Elland Road on Sunday.

Both sides are dealing with key injuries as they enter the weekend. Rodrigo, Archie Gray, Adam Foreshaw and Stuart Dallas remain sidelined for Leeds, while Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial are all doubtful to play for United. To top it off, Casemiro is still serving a suspension and Antony missed the game in midweek and will be reassessed before Sunday’s contest.

Wednesday’s result meant that Leeds have now gone eight games without a win in the Premier League. They’ve only won three games at home this season, but the Red Devils aren’t exactly lethal away from Old Trafford with just five victories from 11 league games.

Considering Man United lack depth in midfield and Leeds will be buoyed by Wednesday’s performance, they should feel confident about picking up another result. Expect a feisty affair, though.

Prediction: Draw @ 4, Over 4.5 cards @ 1.9

Manchester City v Aston Villa

Kickoff: 4.30pm Sunday

Manchester City lost their fourth Premier League match of the season at Tottenham last week, which means they’ve already suffered more league defeats than in the entirety of their most recent campaign.

The positive for City is that they are back in their comforting confines of the Etihad Stadium, where they’ve only dropped points twice this season. Add in this week’s bombshell news of financial wrongdoings and they might be extra motivated on Sunday.

It won’t be an easy test against the in-form Aston Villa, though. Their dramatic 4-2 loss against Leicester was only their second defeat since Unai Emery was hired - Emery has won all three of his away matches so far against Brighton, Tottenham and Southampton.

City have scored three or more goals in 11 of their last 12 home matches against Aston Villa in all competitions, but have only kept one clean sheet in their last four league games. Couple that with Villa scoring at least once in every game since late October and this could be a thriller.

Prediction: Over 3.5 goals @ 2.36
