Blackpool vs Derby County
3pm
It could be an interesting off-season for Blackpool, who have shown plenty of potential at times this season, without ever really emerging as playoff contenders. They do, however, remain a serious force at home and will fancy putting relegated Derby to the sword.
It has been a traumatic season for Derby, who have skirted on the brink of liquidation this season, but their gallant battle to overcome their 21-point deduction ended at QPR on Easter Monday. That was followed by a home defeat to Bristol City, so a trip to the seaside this weekend is unlikely to be a happy one.
Recommended bet: Blackpool to win @ 1.95
Millwall vs Peterborough United
3pm
Millwall kept their playoff hopes alive as a late, late penalty saw them take a point away to Birmingham City in midweek, but nothing less than a win will do at home to doomed Peterborough if they are going to go into the final weekend with something still to play for.
Last Saturday’s loss to Nottingham Forest saw Peterborough’s fate sealed, so Millwall, whose form has stuttered over the past month, could not really hope for a better fixture at this time. Having scored six goals in the past two home games, a comfortable win looks on the cards.
Recommended bet: Millwall to win to nil @ 2.4
Nottingham Forest vs Swansea City
3pm
That Nottingham Forest are still in with a shot at automatic promotion at this moment of the season says something about the incredible job that Steve Cooper has done, as he faces the club he left at the end of last season after losing to Brentford in the playoffs.
It is worth repeating that Forest were bottom of the table when he took charge in September. Getting to mid-table security seemed to be the main aim, but not only have Forest gone way beyond that, they play an exciting brand of football too. And while other contenders have fallen by the wayside, Forest are guaranteed a place in the playoffs and still have a chance of making the top two.
They can be reasonably confident too. They are three points behind Bournemouth, with the same goal difference and the teams play each other on Tuesday on the south coast. Apart from that, Forest play Swansea and Hull, two sides with nothing to play for, while Bournemouth play Blackburn Rovers and Millwall, who both still have playoff hopes.
It has already been a great week for Forest, who won away to champions-to-be Fulham, while Bournemouth scrambled a point away to Swansea. Forest are on a fantastic run, having won eight of their last nine in the league, while Swansea – who collapsed from three-up to draw in midweek – have drawn their last four.
Recommended bet: Forest to win to nil @ 2.48
Burton Albion vs Wycombe Wanderers
12.30pm
It is the final day of the League One season, and it's do or die for Wycombe Wanderers who need a result to retain any hope of an immediate return to the Championship.
Wycombe feel they should have spent the past year in the Championship had it not been for Derby County’s delayed punishment for their financial meltdown, but now sit in seventh place, one outside the playoffs. They are level on points with sixth-placed Plymouth and still within range of the clubs in fifth and fourth, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday, whom they beat last week.
The good news for Wycombe is that they are coming into form at the right time and are unbeaten since February. They face a Burton side with nothing to play for, who have only won one match from the last seven and, with a defeat to relegation-doomed Doncaster Rovers last week, showed that thoughts may already be on the summer and beyond.
Wycombe have been here before under Gareth Ainsworth, so are unlikely to be intimidated by needing to win.
Recommended bet: Wycombe to win to nil @ 3.05
Morecambe vs Sunderland
12.30pm
Sunderland are hitting form at the right time and have only lost once since Alex Neil took over as manager in mid-February. They still need a victory on the final day of the season away to Morecambe to guarantee their place in the playoffs, however, and with Morecambe still not certain of avoiding relegation, this could be an edgy encounter.
It will take victories for both Fleetwood Town and Gillingham (who take on title-chasing Rotherham United) for Morecambe to be dragged down, though. It has been a long time since there has been much optimism around Sunderland, but in Ross Stewart, they have found a striker who can bang in goals on a regular basis. The man known to fans as ‘The Loch Ness Drogba’ has scored 24 goals this season and last month was called up to the Scotland squad.
Recommended bet: Sunderland to win @ 1.78
